[Coffee Shop Talks] Books With Outstanding World-building

Whenever the topic of world-building comes up, one author always comes to mind. I tried to look through the books I've read so far this year and what I read in 2014 to come up with something more recent so I'm not always giving the same old tired answer. But in 5 years I haven't found a world that I've enjoyed more than the one Wilson created in the Tairen Soul series. It's a complex, fascinating world that is beautiful, magical, and dangerous. Tairen beasts soar through the skies shooting flames and armies of Fey warriors battle their mage adversaries with deadly weapons and powerful magic. From the kingdom of immortal elf Seers, to the magical paradise of the Fading Lands, and the dark forests of Eld, I enjoyed every moment of the world Wilson created. She's an amazing author and this is an amazing series.

Which books have you read with outstanding world-building?

I'm really enjoying the Others series by Anne Bishop at the moment, which has some of the best world-building I've seen in Urban Fantasy. But I also agree with your choice of the Tairen Soul series, which is one of my favorite fantasy romances.

Nice to meet another Tairen Soul fan =)
I'm actually one of the very few people who isn't crazy about the Others series. Every other reader I know who has read it has absolutely loved it.

I loved Lord of the Fading Lands! which reminds me, I need to continue that series!!
I also really enjoyed The Winter King, but not nearly as much.
Have you ever read Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan? it's not on audio, and for year wasn't even on Kindle, but is on kindle now. She's another of my favorites for world building :)

I've had Warprize on my TBR list for ages. I'm glad to hear it's one of your favorites. I've been better this year about reading older books from my list. Maybe I can fit this one in next.

I will have to look into this author and book. I am a HUGE fan of world-building. I have a few that I love. One that comes to mind quick as I've just read her recent book to come in March is K.T. Bryski. I loved her book Hapax. Amazing.

Putting this onto my TBR list. I love good world building but I think it's often hard to find. Thanks for the tip!
