[Coffee Shop Talks] Biggest Reading Disappointments of 2014!

I love Jeaniene Frost and will admit that I dove into The Beautiful Ashes with my expectations set on high. I adore this author and know she's capable of creating characters who are unique, entertaining, and full of personality. I was very disappointed when I discovered how bland and unimaginative the characters were in The Beautiful Ashes. There were other issues I had with it as well, but I did enjoy the story line even though it vaguely reminded me of another favorite series of mine. This story was a big letdown for me and I'm not certain yet if I will be reading the sequel.

Unwept was a story that had a lot of potential but in the end it just fell flat. I continued reading it because I was anticipating a shocking reveal or some sort of twist that would make it redeemable, but that never happened. It ended somewhat predictably and while I don't necessarily regret reading the story, I also wouldn't recommend it.

Sorry JFrost disappointed you, Cat. I think I'm one of the few who liked TBA. I haven't heard nor seen Unwept before, I'll keep your feedback in mind.

Top of my head I'm disappointed with the sequel to Angie Sandro's NA series, DNFd that one. A shame really coz I loved the first book.

The Beautiful Ashes was not an instant hit with me either but I'll give the 2nd book a go.

One of my biggest reading disappointments of 2014 was Red Blooded by Amanda Carlson. I keep hoping that this series is going to bounce back, but after one so-so installment, and two blech ones, I'm giving up on Jessica McClain. I rather enjoyed The Beautiful Ashes.

My biggest disappointment was Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas. I didn't hatehate it, but I expected sooo much more.

You know nothing is sticking out blaringly in my mind. I'd have to literally go check my goodreads 2014 books read challenge...now I'm curious lets see....

I'm assuming DNFs don't count so I'm going to go with Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre and and Dangerous by Shannon Hale. most books I just stop reading once I get to that point where I'm too disappointed.

My biggest dissapointment this year was Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira and Save the Enemy by Arin Greenwood. Save the Enemy was so different from the synopsis and the characters were stupid. Stuff happened that made no sense. Love Letters to the dead, I didn't like the main character she was immature and needed help. I don't know how that guy loved her when she almost killed herself and then did nothing to help her.

I don't remember reading many books that have been published this year, but a book that I read and was really disappointed with was Shatter me, by Tahereh Mafi. The book started out really interesting, but later on I found the main character to be whiny and annoying and the rest of the book was very boring.
