In darkness, we find danger. In danger, I find Beau.  Ash is a prison guard, she's tough, she's strong and she never backs away from a fight. She takes her job seriously, she takes her training seriously, and everything in her life goes as planned.  Until the day he is brought into the prison.

She'll never forget meeting Beau 'Krypt' Dawson for the first time. She'll never forget his haunted eyes and his numb expression. He's a member of the Jokers Wrath MC and it is said he killed an innocent family in the middle of a cafe, in cold blood.

Deranged. Crazy. Psychotic. All those words describe the infamous Krypt, but Ash suspects there's far more to the quiet man than meets the eye. Secrets are being hidden by the club, information is being kept under wraps. Krypt is silent for a reason.

Ash is desperate to know that reason.

Continually fighting, Krypt is transferred to a high security prison. Ash is in charge. She's always prepared, always alert. Not even her skills will stop the club from ambushing them and taking back Krypt. Only Ash ends up right in the middle of it.  They take her, too.  Now she's stuck with a Motorcycle Club who are tougher than any prisoner she's ever laid eyes on. And they won't let her go. She's too much of a risk. Until the situation can be sorted, they send her and Krypt into the mountains together....alone.  An epic, dangerous love will be built on the foundations of darkness.

Precarious is the first book in the sexy and erotic biker series by Bella Jewel.  This is the story of brooding biker bad boy Beau "Krypt" Dawson and the honest and loyal prison guard, Ash.  Like other motorcycle club books, there is sex and swearing and the characters find themselves in crazy situations.  But Precarious has a twist on the normal theme I often find in these books.

Precarious begins with Ash working the job that she loves in the prison.  One day, an assumed vile criminal is brought into the jail.  Beau Dawson in strikingly handsome but full of anger.  He refuses to speak and is subjected to unnecessary beatings by the prison guards.  Ash is the only guard that takes her time to talk to Beau and to treat him like a person.  Ash is decent to Beau, although Beau doesn't show any outward signs of acceptance.  After a prison fight, Beau is transferred to a different facility.  This is where the story really takes off.  There is a highway chase, a bus crash, shootings and action.  Beau takes off with Ash and brings her to his club's base.

The main premise is that Ash must stay with Krypt and the Jokers' Wrath MC in order to remain safe.  Things are not what they seem - the bad guys aren't quite what Ash thought they were and the good guys aren't winning any favors from Ash.

Ash and Krypt are forced to spend some time together, both alone and amongst the rest of the club.  There is an intense and hot chemistry between Ash and Beau.  Ash is very wary of Krypt, but Krypt is upfront about his attraction.  Ash plays all the stupid girl cards - I can't be with him because he's a "bad" guy, I can't be with him because I love my job, I can't be with him because I'm nobody's possession, etc. etc.  I like Ash being wary, but enough already!  Ash is a very sexual woman.  She's no innocent virgin.  And she has just a hint of kink.  Krypt is refreshing because he is so honest with his feelings for Ash.  He doesn't play games with her (at first), he doesn't hide his feelings like some macho asshole.

The sex scenes in Precarious are hot.  And there are a lot of them.  Bella Jewel does not disappoint!  This is a love story and as such, remains the primary focus.  We are treated to all sorts of different sexual situations, including a menage scene, so get ready ladies!

One thing I didn't like was the relationship between Krypt and his friend, Penny.  They have a history, but I don't like how Krypt treats Ash when Penny is around.  I mean - it really pissed me off.  Ash might have hurt Krypt out of ignorance, but Krypt hurts Ash out of spite, and that just didn't sit well with me.  There should have been way more grovelling.  It really made me second guess my opinion of Krypt.  I also didn't like the menage scene.  I know, right?  It was hot the way it was written, don't get me wrong, but I don't think that it was something that had to happen to move along the plot.  It felt a bit gratuitous, but then again, I guess there is nothing wrong with gratuitous, well-written sex scenes.  Again, I wish Krypt wouldn't have been quite so sharing.  I want a sexy, bad boy biker to be over-the-top protective and jealous.

All in all, this was a fun, sexy read.  I really liked Jewel's take on the biker subgenre.  Her characters were intense and interesting, including side characters Maddox and Santana.  If you are a fan of biker books, then I would urge you to pick this one up.  Bella Jewel is becoming a must read author for me.  If you like sexy times combined with a high paced plot, then this book shouldn't be missed.

I don't think I have every read a straight-up biker book. Weird, eh? Because I LOVE motorcycles! I mean, I did have my father drive me to the start of the aisle on my wedding day after all. I think I'll give this one a go. Happy Friday, Jamie!
