[Coffee Shop Talks] My Favorite Classics!

I'm not a big reader of the classics. Surprising, right? =) Most of what I've read was required in school or books I chose from the school library.

There have been plenty of times that I've seen classic stories mentioned, like 1984, Lord of the Flies, or The Old Man and the Sea and I always tell myself that I'm going to read them someday...but it rarely ever happens. I did manage to listen to three on audio this year. One was good (The Tell-Tale Heart), one was horrible (The Metamorphosis), and the other was okay but just didn't hold my attention so I never made it to the end (Pride and Prejudice).

Here's a list of the classics that I've really enjoyed, including what I read when I was younger.

I particularly like "The Catcher in the Rye" (read in school) and "Lolita".
Like you I also love Poe.

Reading classics is hard work. It isn't relaxing to read them. I sometimes do though. I've recently read Peter Pan and loved it! I like classics, but not too often.

I've actually never read Wuthering Heights. I tried one time at a friend's house when I saw it out but it didn't capture me right away. I do want to try again though. Love Of Mice and Men and I remember like the parts of the Odyssey I read. Sad that you did not like P&P. Love that book. Also love Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, and most Steinbeck.

"Rebecca" and "The Picture of Dorian Gray" are my favorite classics. I plan on finishing "Wuthering Heights" sometime this year.

When I think of classics, I think of the literature that I had to read back in high school. I'm not a big reader of classics but the ones I do remember back in high school were The Good Earth, Great Gatsby and Gone with the Wind. I would actually reread all of those but I would rather watch the movies instead. LOL.

I'm not a huge classics reader either, but I do enjoy Poe and Wells...maybe because they are precursors to horror/sci-fi which have always been genres I read.

I haven't really read many classics. Shame on me, but I didn't get into reading until long after school and haven't tried them. I should though.

EA Poe heck to the yes...can't say that I've read any of the others unfortunately.
