Best of 2013 Audiobook Blog Hop! (1/1 - 1/15)

Visit the hosts:

I've listened to more audiobooks in 2013 than I have in the past two years. But in creating this post I realized something...only one of them was a 2013 release. Not sure how that happened.
Regardless, I've listened to some fantastic stories with great narrators and here are my top 3 picks. ~ Cat

In this stunning sequel to the highly acclaimed Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Karou must come to terms with who and what she is, and how far she'll go to avenge her people. Filled with heartbreak and beauty, mysteries and secrets, new characters and old favorites, Days of Blood and Starlightbrings the richness, color and intensity of the first book to a brand new canvas. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was declared a "must read" byEntertainment Weekly, was named a Best Book of the Year by Amazon.com, and The New York Times called it "a breath-catching romantic fantasy."

They say Black Dow has killed more men than winter and clawed his way to the throne of the North up a hill of skulls. The King of the Union, ever a jealous neighbor, is not about to stand by smiling while Black Dow claws his way any higher. The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them. Bremer dan Gorst, disgraced master swordsman, has sworn to reclaim his stolen honor on the battlefield. Obsessed with redemption and addicted to violence, he's far past caring how much blood gets spilled in the attempt. Even if it's his own.

Prince Calder isn't interested in honor, and still less in getting himself killed. All he wants is power, and he'll tell any lie, use any trick, and betray any friend to get it. Just as long as he doesn't have to fight for it himself. Curnden Craw, the last honest man in the North, has gained nothing from a life of warfare but swollen knees and frayed nerves. He hardly even cares who wins anymore; he just wants to do the right thing. But can he even tell what that is with the world burning down around him? Over three bloody days of battle, the fate of the North will be decided. But with both sides riddled by intrigues, follies, feuds, and petty jealousies, it is unlikely to be the noblest hearts or even the strongest arms that prevail. Three men. One battle. No Heroes. This audiobook is introduced and closed out by author Joe Abercrombie, who also reads the acknowledgements.

She could save the world - or destroy it.

When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future - and they're still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can't do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can't totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But ii's not always clear who is on which side....

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone series is one of my absolute favorites. When I was compiling my top 3 listens of the year, I had to check twice to verify it's been over a year since the second book was released. I'm so looking forward to Dreams of Gods & Monsters!

I have not listened to any of these on audiobooks, but did just purchase Poison Princess in ebook and am looking forward to starting it. I really enjoyed Janet Evanovich's Explosive Eighteen the narrator is wonderful. I also enjoyed listening to Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, the early books, the narrator was great; however, some audible I heard of later books not so much. Thank you for participating in this fun hop.

We have very similar picks for our 3 favorites. The only difference is that I have Daughter of Smoke and Bone (first book) and Endless Knight (second book of The Arcana Chronicles) :)
I hadn't heard about The Heroes before, but it's a book that sounds right up my alley.
