Early Review - Wethering the Storm (The Storm #2) by Samantha Towle

Music journalist Tru Bennett has done the impossible: capture the heart of rock-star bad boy Jake Wethers. Now they’re busy planning a wedding and navigating their new life together in the US. Of course Tru misses London and her best friend, Simone, but living happily ever after with Jake in LA is going to be great…right?  Wrong. Even the bright California sun can’t whitewash the dark side of celebrity coupledom. Greedy music execs, merciless paparazzi, and Jake’s wild past are lurking around every corner. Making matters worse, Jake announces he doesn’t want kids, which just may be a deal breaker.

Tru loves Jake more than anything. But when a devastating crisis threatens to destroy everything they’ve fought for, the couple must face the hard truth: What if, this time, love is not enough?

Release Date:  August 20, 2013
Genre:  Contemporary Romance, New Adult

One of my all-time favorite angst-fests is back with the conclusion of Jake and Tru's tumultuous love story.  And although there is less angst in this book, Samantha Towle takes you on an incredible ride through the life of a world-famous rock star and the love of his life.

This book is told from the dual perspective of Jake and Tru.  Tru has more chapters in her PoV, but Jake gets a few very important ones.  I am a fan of switching points of view, although I know a lot of you are not.  I find it very interesting and insightful, so I'm glad Towle decided to go with that.

"There is no one else for me.  I begin and end with you."

Wethering the Storm takes place immediately after the ending of The Mighty Storm.  Jake and Tru are on a vacation to get away from the craziness that ensued at the end of the last book.  The press and fans are after Jake and Tru after it became public knowledge that Tru agreed to marry Jake.  I loved how this book opened - Jake and Tru on a beach in paradise, in love and happy after all the strife in the last book.

As the happy couple returns to L.A., they are faced with a multitude of issues, some they didn't even see coming.  Jake is having issues with his business - someone is stealing from him - and is also having band issues.  Nothing that would ever break up The Mighty Storm, but something that has Jake feeling all kinds of guilty.

Tru, on the other hand, is finding it difficult to acclimate to Jakes' rock star lifestyle, including the house where he banged countless girls.  We see Tru's insecurities front and center in this book.  Jake makes it abundantly clear time and time again that he only wants Tru.  Jake would give up his entire life for her if she wanted that and we see how very dedicated he is to her.

"You don't complete me, Tru.  You make me who I am.  You make me better.  I'd be nothing without you.  Nothing."

Jake makes some very grand and romantic gestures in this book, including buying her a brand new house to make new memories in.   Although warranted, I think that Tru is a bit too insecure.  Jake has proven without a doubt that she is "it" for him.  There is a lot of Jake pouring his heart and feelings out to Tru, and it made my heart happy!

"There isn't anything I won't do for you, Tru.  Nothing I won't do to make you happy.  What I feel for's limitless.  There is nothing before or after you.  There is only you."

There is a major announcement from Tru later on in this book, and Jake doesn't react the way she would hope.  There is a bit of the old drama and angst, but it is short-lived, and we can see how much Tru and Jake have grown as people, and as a couple.  After Jake and Tru work through their couple problems, something devastating happens and we see just how amazing of a person Jake is.  If you loved Jake before, he will pull at your heartstrings now.

This is a wonderful conclusion to Jake and Tru's story and I'm so happy I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy.  We are even treated to an Epilogue that is sure to make you smile.  Jake and Tru's story was wrought with uncertainty, but Towle pulls it all together with ease.  I love this series, and cannot wait until there is more to read - Tom, anyone?
