[Blog Tour] Review and Giveaway - Jet by Jay Crownover

Note:  UK and Australia -  Jet’s release date has been moved to June 20

With his tight leather pants and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes. She’s afraid of getting burned from the sparks of their spontaneous combustion, even as his touch sets her on fire.  Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows firsthand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.  Will the blaze burn into an enduring love. . . or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

Title: Jet (A Marked Men Novel #2)
Author:  Jay Crownover
Genre: New Adult
Publication Date:  May 28, 2013
Event organized by: Literati Literature Lovers

Jet is the second book in author Jay Crownover's Marked Men series.  Infinitely better edited than Rule, Jet is a new adult rollicking good time about a bad boy and a reformed bad girl.  There's angst.  There's drama.  There's family dysfunction.  There are damaged characters.  There's also strong friendships, sweet relationships and lots and lots of fun.

Jet is the tattooed and pierced rock 'n roller we first met in Rule. He is the front man of a popular local band.  He lives with piercing guru and tattoo shop girl Cora and the long-legged transplanted southern girl, Ayden.  Jet's bedroom is akin to a revolving door of one-night stands.  So much so that Cora and Ayden rate each girl on the morning after based on how "worked over" they appear as they make the walk of shame.

Here's the thing - Ayden hates watching these girls leave every morning because she has had a long standing crush on Jet.  She even offered herself to him one night and was turned down.  Even though Jet seems to spend his nights with a different girl, there is a growing, magnetic pull between him and Ayden. All of their friends have noticed and before long, Ayden and Jet begin a relationship of sorts.

Although Jet and Ayden seem to really be into one another, they are both fighting demons from their respective pasts.  Jet grew up with a less than stellar father and a mother who plays victim to Jet's detriment.  Ayden isn't who we believe she is.  She has a rough past that centers around her slick talking, no-good brother, Asa.  Both of their families have a profound affect on the plot of this book, as well as give the reader insight into the characters of Jet and Ayden.

This book is very well written and fast paced.  We aren't left to hang for very long when drama rears its head.  I love the setting of this story, and I love how Crownover mentions some very cool bands in her books.  I was thrilled to see Rule, Shaw and the other side characters that we met in previous books.  The characters are all likeable in their damaged ways.  I enjoyed both Jet and Ayden.  However, I must admit that Jet didn't have that rawness and wildness that Rule seemed to have.  I think Jet was a bit more polished around the edges. I empathized with Ayden, especially when we learned about her family.  The only thing missing from Ayden's story is a confrontation with her mother.   I would have loved to have read that!

If you like tattooed and vulnerable bad boys, I think you'll love Jet. I am waiting rather impatiently for book three in this series which will feature Rule's ex-military, brooding brother, Rome.  Give these marked men a chance - they are sure to take you on an intense, sexy ride.

Jay Crownover is the bestselling author of Rule. Like the characters in her Marked Men series, she is a bigfan of tattoos. She loves music and wishes she could be a rock star, but since she has no aptitude for singing or instrument playing, she'll settle for writing stories with interesting characters and that make the reader feel something. She lives in Colorado with her three dogs.

I read a few reviews on the first book in this series and many people didn't seem too impressed with it but I guess it gets better as the series goes. I'm certainly a sucker for a man with tattoos so I shall have to check this out.

Thanks for the great review!
