Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos--the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos' leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby's thinking about much more than friendship... Tabby is everything Shy's ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can't have. She's beautiful, smart, and as his friend's daughter, untouchable. What can I say? If I didn't realize it before, I do now. I love books about motorcycle clubs. This is the second book I've read in this sub genre and the second that I am highly recommending. This book has it all - a messy relationship that spans years, a hot and tattooed alpha lead, a sassy and smart heroine, and enough damaged pasts to keep any drama queen happy.
Tabitha Allen is a MC Princess. Her father, Tack, is the MC prez. We see her grow up from a wild teenager looking for an outlet for her pain, to a broken young woman, to a happy and whole adult. Although Tabby has a loving and protective father, she grew up in a MC and her mother, by all accounts, is the world's biggest bitch. She never held back on an opportunity to beat poor Tabby down. As a teenager, Tabby dealt with this by hanging out with the wrong crowd and finding trouble. Parker "Shy" Cage, a few years her elder and a member of the Chaos MC, was often on "Tabby duty" - coming to Tabby's rescue when she was in over her head. Unbeknownst to Shy, Tabby had a crush on him until the night he decided to scare her straight.
I'd loved him. It was a young, faraway love, but sometimes that was the most intense kind, or it was when you're young and love someone from afar. He'd crushed me so bad I couldn't even reexperience it by sharing.
The remainder of this story deals with forgiveness, love, and letting go of the tumultuous past. Tabby grows into an independent and smart young lady. She is visited by tragedy soon after college and Shy comes back into her life to help ease her pain. Shy has his own messed up past that grates on him every day. This is where the love story between Shy and Tabby begins. Old feelings of lust turn into a whirlwind romance. Unfortunately, there are many obstacles along the way. Since Chaos members are considered family, there is the issue of Shy and Tabby's relationship being accepted by Tack and the rest of the club. Shy has a reputation for being a player and has to prove his true intentions to the MC. We meet Shy's brother, Landon, who also has concerns regarding Tabby and her intentions.
"May feel like you're fallin', Tabby, but remember, I'm at the bottom ready to catch you."
The side characters in this book are all vividly drawn. There are so many I want to know more about. Tyra, Tabby's beloved step mother, acts as Tabby's sounding board. I love the relationship between these two. It's a quasi mother-daughter relationship, blurring into friendship more often than not. Tyra is always there to dole out good advice, but when she over steps her bounds, Tabby is strong enough to stick up for herself. Tack is the sometimes over protective father of Tabby. Although he knows his daughter has seen alot with growing up at the Club, he's very concerned about her well-being and future. He's the strong, silent type who values family above all else. I would love to read a Tyra-Tack prequel! Landon is the ultimate sexy, military, younger brother to Shy. He is protective of his brother and only wants the best for him. I see a Landon story coming somewhere down the road. Even poor, screwed up Natalie, Tabby's BFF, was intriguing to know. Maybe one day we'll see her again.
"How dare you think that is not my choice to make but it's your or Dad's or anybody's?....And how dare you sit there and act like I owe you pieces of me that are not yours to own unless I deem them something I wish to share, like who's in my bed?"
I was completely swept up in the love story of Tabby and Shy. Through all of the obstacles, both internal and external, these two became an addiction. What I really loved about these two is the fact that they don't really try to change one another, and the things that they can't change, they learn to deal with. It felt like a real, genuine relationship. I loved how Tabby and Shy didn't allow others to determine their trajectory.
This was a fabulous start to a series. The next book in this series will feature side characters Hopper and Lanie. Although I'm not as of yet a fan of either character, something tells me that I will love both of them by the end of the next book. There are so many directions Kristen Ashley can take these characters! I can't wait to continue the ride with the Chaos MC.
