Lethal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #3) by Larissa Ione

They're here. They ride.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride . . .

Thanatos, the most deadly Horseman of the Apocalypse, has endured thousands of years of celibacy to prevent the end of days. But just one night with the wickedly sexy Aegis Guardian, Regan Cooper, shatters centuries of resolve. Yet their passion comes with a price. And Thanatos must face a truth more terrifying than an apocalypse-he's about to become a father.

Demon-slayer Regan Cooper never imagined herself the maternal type, but with the fate of the world hanging in the balance she had no choice but to seduce Thanatos and bear his child. Now, as the final battle draws closer and his rage at being betrayed is overshadowed by an undeniable passion for the mother of his child, Thanatos has a life-shattering realization: To save the world, he must sacrifice the only thing he's ever wanted-a family.

Blood or seed . . . something was going to spill.

Best of the series...so far. I'm incredibly anxious to discover what Ione has in store for us next.

The story was sexy, intense, and well-paced, with intriguing characters and a gripping story line that immediately had me hooked.

Lethal Rider takes place many months after the conclusion of Immortal Rider. Regan Cooper is nearing the end of her pregnancy with Thanatos' child and has been avoiding the deadly Horseman ever since their last encounter. He's unaware that he's soon to be a father, but is eager to locate Regan. He plans to repay her for the way that she deceived and took advantage of him.

Not long after their paths cross, the story becomes a mixture of conflicting emotions and barely contained violence, with betrayal around every corner. Pestilence is still wreaking havoc on the world, becoming stronger as time passes. He continues to develop strategies in an effort to break the remaining seals and it seems as if he's become unstoppable.

While Pestilence's scheming, the doubts and fears surrounding Regan's pregnancy, and the many moments of humor all made this story enjoyable, what I was most pleased with was Thanatos. I've been intrigued by his character ever since he was first introduced in the series. I was very much looking forward to spending time with the Horseman known as Death, learning about his past, and discovering all of his secrets. Ione gives us all of that and more.

Thanatos is complex and fascinating. His flesh is covered in tattoos that represent painful memories from his past and his armor contains trapped souls he takes possession of after death. He's also able to use them as weapons, which makes him even more terrifying. He's confident, aggressive, overbearing, and violent. But he also has moments where he can be tender, thoughtful, and he is fiercely protective of his unborn child. And I can't forget to mention that he oozes sexuality. Basically, he's my ideal alpha male.

Unfortunately, I can't say that Regan was a character that stood out to me as well. She definitely took a back seat to the Horseman she lusted after. There were moments where I felt sorry for her because of her troubled past, the way she was treated by the Aegis, and her tendency to use OCD as a coping mechanism when under stress. But this made her only mildly interesting.

Overall, I enjoyed the story on many different levels with all of the secondary characters, both good and bad, the complexity of the story line, the narrative shifts, and the surprising conclusion. I have very high expectations for the fourth installment in the series, Rogue Rider.

"You know what, buddy?" Wraith said. "They aren't worth it. Not now. But later..." He jabbed his finger at Lance and bared his fangs. "You're mine. And dude, I play with my food."

Air Force veteran Larissa Ione traded in a career as a meteorologist to pursue her passion of writing. She now spends her days in pajamas with her computer, strong coffee, and supernatural worlds. She believes in celebrating everything, and would never be caught without a bottle of Champagne chilling in the fridge…just in case. She currently lives in Wisconsin with her U.S. Coast Guard husband, her teenage son, a rescue cat named Vegas, and her very own hellhound, a King Shepherd named Hexe. I'm sure you would love it, Becky! Especially Thanatos ;-) But I understand about series getting moved down the pile, so I can't give you a hard time about not reading it....yet =)
