Q: You are a matchmaker -- your goal is to hook up 2 characters from 2 of your favorite books. Who would it be? How do you think it would go?

A:  This one took a bit of brainstorming, but I present to you, Aligaliarept from The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, and Mallory from the Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill.
Al by Dark Daughter 114
A bit over the top, but a version of Mallory

Okay.  So why did I choose these two characters for a hook-up?  Well, these are two of my favorite urban fantasy series.  I chose side characters since it seems that the main characters are always getting the choice story lines and hook ups.

Algaliarept, Al for short, is a 5,000 year-old demon.  He has goat-slit eyes, and he's a bit underhanded at times.  He lives in the Ever After twisting curses and plotting ways to create alliances with powerful humans.  Throughout the Hollows series, Al has transformed from a rather evil and scary character into one that would do almost anything for Rachel Morgan.  As much as I love Al, he will never end up with Rachel.  He needs a woman who has a bit of evil in her that could learn from him and love him back.

Favorite Al quotes:

"Rachel Mariana Morgan!"  he shouted enthusiastically, raising the lantern high, and I painfully rose from my crouch, breaking my bubble with a small thought.  "I've come to save you, love!"

“I smell pancakes," Al said as he jauntily smacked Pierce's hat back on the witch's head. "Did the runt make you breakfast?" Al said, leaning over the stove. "Quickest way to a woman's crotch is through her gullet, eh?" he said, leering at Pierce, who was now rinsing out the percolator. "Is it working? I'd be curious to know. I'd buy her a cake or something.”

“Welcome back, my itchy witch.”

Mallory, oh Mallory, how I detest you these days!  It would be perfect if Mallory became Al's familiar and ended up hooking up with the naughty demon.  Why?  Because she's eeevvviiiillll!  See, I lost all sympathy for Mallory in the most recent CLV novel, Drink Deep.  She was a character I once liked immensely.  She has very little control over her black magic, and Al would be a perfect teacher for her.  And let's face it, Catcher is way too good for Mallory.  Mallory might decide there's something about the demon Al that she likes!

Favorite Mallory Quotes:

“Catcher snorted. “If we’re not playing naked Twister, we’re wasting our waking hours.”   “Yep,” Mallory said as she tugged him down the sidewalk, “that’s the love of my life. He’s a romantic at heart.”

"I'm just warning you, I'm probably going to be a total hard-ass vamp."
Mallory snorted and walked out of the kitchen, calling out, "Yeah, well, you've got a purple marshmallow on your chin, hard-ass vamp.”

“Jesus,” Mallory whispered. “I want to support your quest for revenge and all, but maybe you should just let him glamour you.” She looked at me, and I could tell she was trying not to laugh. “Either you’re fucked, or you’re fucked, right?”

Would this hook-up work?  In the short-term, yes.  Al would love having an attractive female familiar that he could loan out to his demon friends.  Mallory would have someone to help her learn to control her magic and teach her new curses and spells.  However, in the long-term, I think Al will always have a place in his wretched little heart for Rachel Morgan, and I think that Merit would eventually attempt to rescue her BFF from the Ever After.  Oh, well.  It was good while it lasted.

Hopping through. I've never read Kim Harrison's books, but Algiarept sounds fascinating. I'm curious about his eyes.

Great answer Jamie! I haven't read these books yet but I'm digging the name Aligaliarept. LOL!

I had a hard time answering this because there aren't that people I would want to pair up. For the most part I like who all those fools end up with. So I just picked Butch from BDB and Betsy from mary Janice Davidson's Undead series. They're both funny and new to the whole vampire thing.
