Feature & Follow [14]

Feature & Follow is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read.  It is a fun way to meet new bloggers and to keep in touch with bloggers you already know!  Please feel free to follow us via Linky, e-mail or GFC.  If you leave a comment and link, we will visit your blog, too!  Check us out on Twitter:  Cat and Jamie

Q:  This Sunday in the U.S. is Mother's Day. In celebration, what are some of your favorite books with strong mother/child relationships?

A:   This was yet another difficult question for me.  Why?  Because I mostly read UF and PNR, with a bit of Sci-Fi and Dystopian thrown in for good measure.  A lot of times with the genre I read, the mother is either dead, missing or not in the story at all.

Of the books that I've read where a mother is included, I can think of two that I really liked.  In both the Sirantha Jax and Divergent series, each author gives us a glimpse of the mother of the main character, although we don't learn too much about them.  Towards the end of the story line, it becomes apparent that both of these mothers are not what they seem and they end up sacrificing a lot for the safety of their daughters. And really - what better relationship is there than a mother that would sacrifice anything for their child?

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

I think you're totally right about sacrifice. I loved Tris's mom so so so much. I forgot how much until just now. I really need to get a move on and read book two! I just recently started following you. Thanks for following. :)

I read a lot of PNR, too, and agree that the moms are frequently absent. I really need to read Divergent.

I agree with the missing parents syndrome in UF/PNR/Dystopian novels out today. Haven't read Divergent yet, but I will soon! Happy Friday! :)

Old follower,
Stop by my FF post? :)

I'm ashamed to say I haven't read either of those (I'm a dying breed of non-Divergent readers haha), but I agree that the sacrifice for the daughter would qualify! I had a tough time with the question too.

Happy friday!
