Feature & Follow [2]

Q: Beefcakes and Babes asks:  I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing.  What's the most unique character name you've come across?

There seems to be a big trend in giving female characters nicknames that sound like boys' names.  There also seems to be a trend towards creative spelling in character names.  Personally, I think one of the most unique character name I've found is "Arcadia 'Cady' Bell" from Jenn Bennett's "Kindling the Moon."  I don't think I've ever come across a person or character named 'Arcadia' and I love that it can be shortened to Cady.

Oh, man! Forgot about Cady! I love Cady and oh, shit! Jupe! *swoon* I'm in love with a character totally way younger than me. LOL

I do love that name. My first thoughts for this question were the weird names I've read it books. :)

Hey gober!! You're up and running. I just linked you up! :))I do love Cady too!! :)
Great post Jamie!!! I'm so proud of you.

Oh puh-leese Mariya, Jupe is like 16 years old, aren't you like 17??? hehe

Pennsylvania Book Chick said...

Hey - I swoon for Jace and he's like, 17 and I'm WAY older than Mariya!

I looked at my keyboard in utter silence for about 5 minutes because I couldn't think fast enough. I started to write about Terrible (see Vain - we're on the same wave lenth) but then suddenly thought of Cady.

Thank you all for your support at my newbie-ness.

Mariya said...

Isn't Miss Vain funny!? 6 year difference and I guess I shouldn't be complaining. I could lie about my age and many people would believe me. I was mistaken for a 13 year old. LOL

Addicted2Heroines said...

Ha! My first thought was Terrible too. Awesome job Jamie. I very much like being two smart brains now instead of just one =)

I think part of that trend is that in general there seems to be a trend towards giving baby girls names that used to be boys names. I have heard many people comment on that.

After I put out my lame answer (yep, went with the standbys, BDB & and Dark Hunters) I thought of a unique name that's stuck with me, Aislinn, but it's mostly stuck b/c I can't stand the character.

I'm an old follower but I picked both of you up on Twitter & added Linky. Thanks for visiting me!!!!! (Ugh, when did they change Capcha?!? - it's harder) Have a great weekend!!

Thanks for the visit.

You really made me laugh with what you said about Pritkin. And don't feel too ashamed for forgetting him- he wouldn't like a lot of fuss anyway ;)

I have also read the awesomeness that is Chess Putnam and the other two series you mentioned - White Trash and Annabelle Lee- are both on my 12x12 challenge list for the year. Hopefully I will like them just as much too.

Arcadia is pretty. Makes me think of the French population run out of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. They established themselves in the present New Orleans area.
